
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine, who is an assistant technician in the laboratory and John Ormond. Ormond is the second of five children born to her parents. Her early appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. Then she attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art which she attended until 1988. Ormond first appeared on British TV in 1989's series Traffik. The show was focused on the illegal trade in heroin, from the far East up to Europe. Ormond played the drug-addicted daughter of the main character, who was a Home Office minister in the UK government that was involved in fighting heroin importation. It was the first time Ormond had a role and received glowing reviews.
