Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation that has lived in Atlanta from her grandfather who was a farmer, John Pendleton Roberts. Her father was an early interest in theatre. When he was a student at Emory University in 1952 he acted in productions on campus and in Atlanta. In 1953, he joined the Air Force, and was stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a production with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. In 1957, the couple quit the military and Walter was enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter was hired as a technician by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to assist on the stage of the show Bum Bum and His Buddies, which aired in Decatur Georgia. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of a local Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. They also founded a six-year Actors and Writers Workshop later the same year.
